Back from Training

So, I've had a week (well, almost a week) meeting up with the group of people (7 ppl in total) who i will be living and working with the next 18weeks and getting some much needed information and preparation for the trip.

I cannot believe that I only met them on Tues - feels like I've known them for so long!!
They are: (in alphabetical order) no favourites :P

Abby
Hannah
Isabel
Jenny
Jonno
Phil

Affectionately known as 'Team Wildcats (who knew that I'd find boys that were as obsessed with High School Musical as the Gilbert brothers!! seriously, there'd be no stopping them if i ever introduced them to each other! I thought that the Gilberts were complete nutters for being so into HSM - turns out they are just a few nutters out of many!!)
There will be a photo of all of us as soon as our teams co-ordinator puts them on facebook and I can nick one!

I sort of wish that we could have gone to SA straight from the training - coz we were all pretty psyched and excited.
But i know that we all need the extra prep time to pack.

I've discovered a lot of things about SA and the things that we're going to be doing which have majorly changed what I will pack.
Mainly the fact that we can buy clothes pretty cheaply out there - therefore i will pack fewer clothes and more important items such as chocolate (yes the title of the blog may have changed, but i am still the same raging chocoholic as i always was :P)

I finished my job at the hospital last Thurs (before Easter) that was really wierd coz I didn't realise quite how much of a routine I had gotten myself into - or the number of ppl I will actually miss seeing everyday! They gave me some rather lovely pressies and it was all a lot of fun!
I am glad that i do have these two weeks for head and packing space!

Still working with White Lodge till the Wednesday before I go because I love the little boy and his family - and will have a harder time saying goodbye to him and his family. Hearing about the work of the Oasis Thailand team (working with disabled kids) made me wonder how much the facilities would differ for the children out there and what challenges that would present. You look at it a completely different way when you've actually worked with children in those sorts of situations I guess.

I am absolutely loving eating chocolate again - and i have two easter eggs to eat before i leave - so all is goooood!

There are so many friends to meet up with before I go - tis insane! and the time is gonna go so quickly!
At the same time as that sucks - i can't wait to get out there and learn more about the ways i react in dfferent situations and getting stuck into the experiences that will shape the way i think about the rest of my life!

All in all a pretty unique and exciting time coming up!
Bring It On!!

open up the part of you that wants to hide away

I think all of the blogging community whom i am in contact with have been very lax in their blog-keeping recently

as have I.

but quite frankly i have missed it....so

where have i been since the 11th of August?? (a whole 7month and 3days ago...what?)
the answer to that is - ALOT of places...

Results have been recieved, cried and laughed over (personally i think it takes quite alot of skill to fail ALL three chemistry A2 units and still get a D!)

Taunton 3 has been attended with many laughs, more tears, bare jokes exchanged& amazing times had...

Much time wasted lounging in the sun and on facebook before finally securing two jobs - one at St Peter's Hospital in mid-september (which meant life unfortunately stopped feeling like one extended summer holiday)

and the second job a couple of weeks later at white lodge (and yes, it did take them the best part of two months to interview me and actually start me in the job!!)
Ironically I am now coming towards the end of my time working. I finish SPH next week and WL later on in april.

SPH has been fairly boring but is good to see how a hospital actually works& have met some pretty decent people - and some not so decent - but no need to go into that! lol!

WL has been rewarding - getting to know two beautiful boys and their families and caring for them, pushing the limit of my patience sometimes!!

Aside from work, I have:
Seen Paramore in concert twice
Had a pretty decent Xmas
and a pretty fabby new year!
also, a pretty lovely valentines day ;D
carried on helping out with church youth group and all the challenges that has thrown my way
spent ALOT on phone credit
had great times on Youth Leadership Conference(Chorleywood Week B) and Taunton3 reunion!!
Not visited half as many people at uni as i sed i would!
Carried on planning for the big trip out to South Africa which i leave for a month tomorrow (eeek!) and havent done half as much as i should have done! surprise surprise!

O yes, i have also applied to university (after much debating, soul-searching and generally stressing about what course to do...) to do occupational therapy - can't be bothered to explain it if you're not sure what that is - please wikipedia it!!
Got three offers - coventry, plymouth and cardiff and am 99% i will be going to the mighty cardiff!!

So, gap-year has been unarguably one of the best years of my life (so far!) and the best coupla months are still to come!

I would like to hear anyone arguing against the benefits of not having to do homework when you finally get home in the evening(two jobs....)
the worst thing is knowing that i'll have to back to doing "homework" next yr!

Looking forward to next week - finishing one job which will free up far more time to hurriedly get myself organised AND mark (teeter) is coming back to the UK - will be so great to see him again!

Not too sure how to end this post as it's been so long - just to say that - this blog will soon be undergoing a face-lift to prepare for it being my main method of communication back home while I'm away.....don't see the point of having two blogs!!

and will be blogging alot more in the coming months!
peace out x

barely waking

i was going to save my nxt blog for the announcement of ze examen results but i realised that such a large announcement after nothing at all whatsoever was going to be a complete anti-climax
so i decided to save you the climatic anti-buzz
yes sirs

i realise that i sed tht i ws goin2blog lots abt my African experience
but time and a shoddy internet connection got the better of me
i cannot believe how INSANELY fast this summer is going....one second it was stretching vastly and luxouriously out in front of me....and the next i am drowning in job application forms and interview offers!

such is life

back to the point....the rest of Africa was a complete amazement of fantasticness - wouldn't change it, kinda want to be bac there, can't wait to be ther nxt yr (yes, that's right folks - i hv been accepted onto a charity-run scheme for april-august next year; in either uganda or south africa, i have yet to decide....this makes me very happy - even tho i need a huge amount of monneys before then.....)

and now i've lost my train of thought!
woo!

if yous want to see the fotos of africa then see my facebook - if you don't know me on facebook then add me, if you don't have facebook then you're a loser, basically.
but nevermind - i'm sure you'll get over it!

i can't be bothered to recap the last couple of weeks of what I've been up to (and also can't remember it!) so
in a nutshell i have:
driven to and frm merlin's house a couple of hundred times
ripped an old pairof jeans
seen the simpsons movie Twice
seen shrek 3
been lazy to the point of contemplating sloth-conversion (i.e. converting into a sloth)
watched alot of friends and shipwrecked (because these are the only two things worth watching in the morning when you don't have digital)
lost monopoly
won cluedo
shopped
visited grandparents
applied for jobs

you get the picture
(i dont have a job yet - waiting to hear from white lodge about an interview - st peters are waiting for me to finish filling in a health form - but i'm trying to delay that so i can hear from white lodge first -coz i'd rather work ther! ooo aren't i jst the epitomy of a cheeky monkey :P)

i miss my friends from school
it is very wierd not going to start a new school year in sep (specially as i'm not starting uni either)
but i'm beginning to warm up to the idea!

i think that's all for now folks
hope that gives you a nice little catch-up to sink your small pointy teeth into
actaully i should probably mention
i have a minor eye infection due to other peoples (who shall remain nameless) using my mascara and making it all bacterial and horrible!
i also had a random allergic reaction this evening to nothing (apparently! or at least i can't isolate the source!)
so this evening has not been brilliant for me as i am now nice and drowsy frm the piriton tab i took to stop the senseless spread of itchy rashness all over my body!!

i am off to taunton on mon - for the best week of my year (altho this year it has a lot more to compete with it has to be said!) so i am hoping (and have everything crossed) that i will be all bettered by then!!

much love xox

Come To Kenya - we've got lions

Ok so i'll admit i haven't actually seen any lions yet (but hopefully will when we go on safari at the end of next week!)
bt its all to do with a song from a dofe expedition which i wasn't on(!) and my trip to the forest of dean with team rattling phelgm (nice name huh!!)

i will have to blog about tht trip later - more specifically - when marion has typed up the journal - so tht u can do more laughing and i can do less typing!
also my head is filled with my kenyan adventures!
so yes

the flight to nariobi (i can't spell) was long, uneventful and sleepless (which was a shame as it was an overnight flight...)
i watched lots of films - two of them being
'i think i love my wife' - as boring and predictable as the title suggests
and
'bridge to terebithia' - which will forever bring back memories of mrs adams and was also spectacularly boring

we got delayed at the domestic airport in nairobi so i became very familiar with their plastic seating and slept for an hour or so
then flew in a fairly rickety old plane to Malindi airport
and got picked up my a taxi to drive through to Watamu - where our hotel is.....the drive was half an hour or so along a v.straight and pot-holed road.....it was wierd because it felt surreal due to sleep deprivation - and because it looked exactly like it does on the tv screen (funny that eh!!)

then we arrived at the hotel and i was immediately on a huge guilt trip. this place is 5-star coz the hotel we originally booked is undergoing refurbishment and so the company we booked with is meeting the extra cost :D
this means an AMAZING environment - with a 7km stretch of beach less than a minutes walk away - and the service is fantastic - you get hot towels which are covered in essential oils before each meal - which is one of the nicest things ever! - and people practically falling over themselves to help you out.

this hotel is completely westernised and luxuourious - which is brilliant and wonderful - but when there are people 2minutes walk from you who have nothing it makes it harder to deal with (and so it should methinks!)

i then did the boring thing of unpacking and sleeping and reading - then was afternoon tea (unfortunately no scones!) and finding out our itineary for the rest of the hol.
then more sleeping and eating and sunbathing (tho it gets dark at about half 6 coz we're at the equator - which is kinder scary - since that = winter in britain)
then more sleeping, and, later on, eating.
then bed (with plenty of mosquito repellant and nets protecting me)

Then 2day we ate (any one else seeing a theme??), swam in the pool (sea was a bit choppy due to strong wind - yes i know i'm a wuss!)
sunbathed, read,
ate
and then headed out to the orphanage where we are helping out for the next week and a bit. had a tour round the home and the school which is built in the grounds (their smaller classes total 6o-70 kids to one teacher and their largest is over 100 - this means their smallest class would be like having the entire swps sixth form in one room having the same lesson done by the same teacher -- personally i would love to see Jordan or Powell attempt that one!)
Met a few of the children (and tried and failed to learn names)
Had one v.cute 3/4 year old (who was about the size of a 2-year old) called Samwell (or Samuel - cant work out which one is correct!) cling to me which was very nice (until it got annoying! lol!)
Helped make chippatti's for their evening meal which was rele fun
Then chatted to an australian volunteer who's been there for a couple of weeks found out that she spent six years in art school/uni doing fine art and is also a qualified nurse and has been travelling for the last two and a half years and has no thoughts of settling down anywhere anytime soon - which is cool but i don't think i would ever be the type of person who could do that!!
Then back to the hotel - been thinking lots of deep thoughts about life and all that - but i shan't bore you with my partially formed new ideas - maybe another day

Its pitch black outside (i'm two hours ahead of you guys) andi have to dash coz its taken me quite awhile to type this (this is definitely not one of the easiest keyboards i've ever used......and dinner is in 30mins and need to smarten up - also have ALOT of face-booking still left to do (70 emails - crikey!)

the meals here are so incredibly lovely that the smaller portions diet that i was going to put myself on after eating constantly in wales is gonna have to wait until i get home as i can't possibly not eat this food - lol!

hope its not still raining in England :P
till the nxt time!

i could not stop as you now know

SO
here i am
the end of school has come and gone
and i feel v.mixed
glad i no longer have to go to school
annoyed that i have so much work to do
sad that i will no longer walk into the sixth form centre and see our year frollicking around

the last day ws bittersweet
only nearly cried once
after gates' lesson
and that was because gates was so sweet -- not because of it being the last chemistry lesson ever!! :D
altho our chem class was legendary of course....
at first rec we crashed the staff room
which was funny
the nice teachers (e.g. husselbury, gates etc) throughly enjoyed it!!
apparently we were the first year to do it properly
grin grin

i mist the hokey-cokey in the courtyard
which i was abit annoyed about
but nevr mind

i went to starbucks with tori, katy and stef this was much fun and a bit of a rave
i thought we were gonna wierd out the consumers of starbucks with our outfits
but when we turned up we discovered that half of the year had beaten us to it
they were the v.brightly coloured half and therefore this minimised the effect of our outfits somewhat....

i actually did work in all of my lessons
which was major shockness
but i suppose i do have exams at the end of the day
so it makes sensible sense

i ate sooo much crap it was quite baad
i could feel the fatness creeping
but once i ate some proper food the body sorted itself out
so all was ok again

i was throughly drained when i got home from school
wandered around like a zombie for a while and then slept for a couple of hours before sitting in front of the TV for a while and then getting an early night....

i have not done much work
i have been to a pirates party for the mum of my best friend from primary school
didn't know many people - but was quite fun nonetheless

this week i MUST MUST MUST
do some work
coz i'm playing quite hard as well
so need some balance (of the equlibrium kind....ah the sadness of chemistry)

elena -- i think you can get your mr beaman blogger account back by going to the blogger homepage and clicking on 're-claim your blogger account'
see weather tht works
also,
could u send out a reminder about whats happening on your birthday??
pleasy

ok off to revise

like a good girl! :P

sieben, sieben

Yessir
the Ukraine rocked the Eurovision - and should have won - blats!
Serbia were crap.

the party ws goooood - much eating, not enough drinking, too much dancing, too many rele, rele idiotic photos taken. facebook = cringe.

Soooo many cheesy poufs (or puffs - as the food seemed to suggest)
and yet again i lost the ability to swallow liquids due to a joke being told at just the wrong time......seriously i cannot drink my drink when there are witty people saying witty things as they get sprayed by whatever liquid happens to be in my mouth at the time.

but then if everyone is silent and watches me drink this makes me crack up
so this is definitely a lose-lose situation
the best solution is not to drink anything at all
but become a dehydrated mush of squidge was never my life ambition (and i hope it never will be!)

I HAVE TWO DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT EVER
this is scary
and i am illlllllllll
which is NIGHT GUT
i need to be revising and all i can do is sit and snivel and feel excessively sorry for myself

had last dodd lesson 2day
was pointless
in fact
most of my lessons are being pointless atm
other than psychology
which is suprisingly surprising

now i promised myself i would go to bed early 2nite
2 fight off illness
it is now almost 10 so suppose i better mosey off for the earliest night i have had in months.

i can't think of a particularly decent way to end this blog
so i guess cheerio will have to do!!

Cheerio!
lol

start something

WHY CAN'T LIFE B SIMPLE??
its so messed up
well at least it is in my head!
argh!

I am looking 4ward2 elena's eurovision party 2nite with much over-excited glee
much bailey's ice-cream and estonian beer drinking coming up
not sure hw much truth there is in the 'estonian' part of the beer.....whether this is a myth i have created.....or my guilibility has been taken advantage of - either way - beer will be drunk
and i think this is the main assumption in my argument
(how many marks would every1 hv picked up in the critical thinking exam last yr if there had been an argument for the age of legal drinkage to be decreased??)

ah critical thinking
i would not re-do that if u paid me the entirety of the salary that you will earn for the rest of your life
unlike omar who would pay that exact amount to hear dodd admit he is not gifted in the chemistry-teaching side of things
altho omar is going to be over-worked and under-paid
so tht amount of money may not be as significant as previously thought......

time has been trying to make me believe the most horrible things recently
such as the fact that we only have five days left of school EVER *shudder*
exams are only a couple of weeks away *double shudder*

although marion is here in just under six weeks
this is a very much nicer fact to believe
if you forget about the exams that have to become before that time!

please note that i will not be supporting scooch in the eurovision 2nite
i will support whoever else takes my fancy
and shun the politicness of it all

can't wait to hear terry wogan commentating; he is hiliarious - and a general all round LEGEND
:D

i have my new camera - with which to document all the craazy going-ons that ensue this evening
and if the photos taken while we were all in a large pile of bodies yesters in the common room are anything to go by.....
there should be a few brilliant old shots!

ah can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!

out for lunch - back in one minute

Last week ws gd and bad in jst equal bursts
psychology last weds ws v.amusing - due to the above joke and ishmael getting the giggles for at least an hour after that!! i kid u not...
ah how i love laughter!

the good was the funny weekend had in sunbury
the bad was monday morning and driving lesson
the good was hot fuzz and nando's on Tues eve with weez and elena :D
the bad was the persistent headache on weds
the good ws coming home early and sleeeping
the bad was missing the chemistry
the good was ishmael being a darling and giving me a lift
the bad ws the video editing software not co-operating in general studies (nt the type u take an exam in...)

can't remember much about last thursday or friday - an am trying to remember weather i'm supposed to have remembered anything that occured on those days
except getting an interview

yes!
Queen Mary's want to see me on Thurs - which is exciting and good and lovely
and all other happy adjectives

the weekend was GOOOOD
saturday was dodgeball tournament - spent all day settingup/playing/tidying up after dodgeball
over a 100 kiddies all in a church throwing balls at each other
brilliant!
and my talk thingy went well aswell (small miracle..!)
we broke even with costs and can give some to charity aswell

You could have your pick of pretty things....

I want to live like I know what I'm leaving

Yes indeedy

Got Switchfoot's "Oh, Gravity!" album (their latest) from Hannah as my belated xmas pressie
imported from japan
for some reason - no idea - they're an american band!!
Its bin on repeat all eve
Loveage to the Hannah

and of course to switchfoot for making such amazing tunes....

In this life I'm stubborn to the core
In this life I've been burning after more
We both know what these open arms are for
You're everything that's fair
In this life, you're my only one

ok
other things
i have started using my frees productively (shock, shock - horror, horror)
and my evenings not as productively
which is wierd
but feels ok

really need to buy A2 revision guides....

babysitting for the first time in an age 2moro
looking 4ward2 it

haven't done an awful lot
cept i sat in library prep 2day and observed all the littlies doing life and stressing over miniscule amounts of homework
made me feel old but at the same time a tensy bit mature, hehe

gar
if only i could have a yr 8's or 9's workload for a week
t'would be biig partying week
lol!

erm
yes

Am madly looking 4ward to my birthday - saw the venue 2day - isn't amazing and needs mega clean
but there is potential there
they are one of the only places which would have me
it will b crowded
coz i am obviously soo overly popular
and hannah thinks i am mad for having it in that "shack" down her road
but yea
i don't think it will b all that bad after a clean
altho i wood love 2make it open plan
would b easier
but they're not that lenient

lol

hmmmm this post has included more hannah than is usual :P

she should b proud
bt i don't think she reads it
coz she has better things to do with her time

like watch endless re-runs of scrubs and friends

hehe

this post has been spectactularly pointless
i think this deserves congratulations
ther is a ton of things i should be doing
bt i can't b bothered to remember them
coz i'm so kwl!

wateva

argh!!
i've just looked at the time

where the heck has this evening gone?????????
ahhh

guess i dont have much time as i thought
i shall finish with these v.deep words....

I want to live and die for bigger things
Before I die I want to burn out bright

I need that sweet escape

Ahhhh
Alanis Morisette - Ironic has just come on the radio
brillant song!!

so
here
i am

my head is messed
finished reading "my sisters keepers" by jodi piccoult
makes u think....big life, scary(ish) thoughts
will read more by her

thursday - got an offer from UEA
woo! yea!
(part from the AAA bit..)
but its an offer

failed my driving test - nt2big a deal - more frustrating thn anything else coz it ws a silly lil thing.
next driving test = thurs 29th mar - so will miss lectures again.....

then fri i found that penninsula has rejected me
which isn't too big a deal
just waiting on queen mary's in london
not2hopeful
coz it is quite late on
bt never saying never....

i rele don't like sophie ellis bextors new song - this is a random fact i no bt still - didn't like her b4 don't like her now.

the weekend was much fun
sat woke up relatively early for a weekend - did work
then fished into richmond
and mooched round (mooched = verb = To wander about aimlessly)
and chatted and ate

and coffee shopped

i have been surprised to find that there are less shops in rich than in staines
and i have been reliably informed by weez that richmond is good for nothin bt shoes (which she wood no..)
still a gd place to meet tho
easier thn other places i could mention *coughs* ashford (ah good times!) - can't go thru feltham without smiling....

len-man has been a legend these past few days
with quotes such as "your mum has it"
in response to an anguished cry from bendall of "where's my maths textbook!?"
which made me laugh all the way to psychology
and her randomness 2day while high on sugar and caffiene

"that's no way to treat your husband-in-law-to-be"

*giggles some more*

oh
and my announcement that i want to eat her alive
after a frustrating lunch spent chemistry-ing

good times my fiancee
good times

ho hum
off2proof-read my 20 pages of psycho (to b fair 4 or 5 of the pages don't act hav much on them..but you know)

drive till you lose the road.

and the answer is.....

Has been forever since i last blogged
in the middle of mocks i believe it was

Lots and nothing has happened

i went to woking on sat with merlin, hannah, josh, bb and decaf
bowling
good fun

then watched tiny bit of England being thrashed
and Lost

which was amazingly confusing
and once again i am hooked on the far-fetchedness and freakiness of it all

Monday:
Found out bio grade
Found i failed chem
Had a driving lesson
Went to physio
Fell asleep for an hour when i wasn't supposed to
Went to BSL

Tuesday:
Found out psycho grade and got back first draft of coursework (already an A! woo! yea - go me!)
Went to usual and extra chem lessons
Sat and waited twenty minutes for a non-exisistent hussellbury - and then did nothing with the free which prevailed from having no biology!

Wedsnesday: (why does that spelling look so wrong?)
had my last lesson EVER with Downey
literally an end of an era - SEVEN YEARS!
its not surprising i now border on insanity
but anywys
had coffee and biscuits from her and she passed onto us the various pieces of life knowledge that she felt obliged to, such as:
"you wouldn't get a new car without getting it checked by the AA - so with boyfriends always get the opinion of friends and family....if he's not interested in family then dump him"
"Going to uni is about being selfish"
and
"i watched this programme about 60+ year old bodybuilders - it was disguisting"
"what's a six pack?" (yes we were given the task of explaining a six-pack to downey - someone please cringe with me?!)
"if you had a guy who was that muscly you'd go to hug him and bounce straight back off him again (with apt hand and body movements to provide illustration)

ah trust the Downey to provide entertainment during, what was, a reflective lesson of the goods and bads of the past couple of years

but i'm gonna miss downey-isms a lot
she says we should pop in for a coffee sometime next term if we want to

but i think that might be a step too far!

2moro is Le Driving Test
lil doubts are a'creeping
but they are in the process of being banished

can't wait to get out ther all by myselfy
even tho i will be v.nervous the first time i'm by myself
it is something i will learn to enjoy

must go sleep
i swear if i was allowed to be i would be nocturnal
hmmm
thats a good idea for beginning of gap-year - do shift work - then i would be able to confirm my suspicions that i should have been a badger
or indeed
a normal cat
as they have so much lovely sleep during the day

*yawns*

yep that mattress looks goood
